1875-S $2 1/2 MS63 PCGS. Without question, the 1875-S quarter eagle is an underrated coin in mint condition. The relatively low mintage of 11,600 pieces, all of which apparently entered circulation, is the third lowest of the 19 years that S-mint Liberty quarter eagles were struck. Incredibly, PCGS has graded a scant total of eight examples in all Mint State grades, with four in MS63 and only one coin grading higher; a solitary MS65 (4/07). The fact that the Philadelphia Mint coined an astonishingly low 400 business strikes dated 1875, which was the lowest recorded mintage of Liberty quarter eagles, makes the S-mint of the same year that much more desirable to collectors, particularly those pursuing a date set. The mint luster on this piece is surprisingly thick and both sides exhibit deep reddish patina.

Shipping: Coins & Currency (view shipping information)
