1875-S<$2 1/2> MS63 PCGS. A base orange-gold color is visible over both sides of the coin, deepening with hints of burgundy and olive on the obverse, and turning to a pale peach in some of the recessed areas of the reverse. Slight weakness in strike is visible on the IB on the obverse and the left (facing) leg on the reverse. Surfaces are smooth with a minimum of contact marks, easily in line with the grade. Luster, while a bit subdued on the obverse, is full and attractive on the reverse. The 1875-S is most often found in circulated grades, and most Mint State specimens grade MS61. This coin is in Select company with only five other coins to have received an MS63 or higher grade from the major grading services. Population: 4 in 63, 1 finer (8/06).
From The Della Collection.
