This 1875 gentleman's dresser is an outstanding example of the urgent need to preserve our pioneer heritage. A five-drawer chest, it features original porcelain casters, square nail construction, dowelled drawers, period hardware and a combination of black cherry, poplar and rosewood. When found by the Preservation Project, it suffered from loose joints, damaged finish, missing hardware and was in serious need of TLC. Project artisans repaired its joints, replaced missing hardware with pulls from the period (not repro), and restored its appearance with hand rubbed tung oil. To retain its natural beauty, just apply lemon oil occasionally.
