Forwarding receipt from Chinese Camp for $935 in "(gold) dust". This is a rare receipt for gold sent to the Bank of San Francisco on July 19th, 1875. It was signed by Solinsky for the company. 8x5 in good condition. C. W. H. Solinsky was a native of Poland, born on the August 14, 1814. He immigrated to the United States in 1840 and enlisted six years later in Quitman’s Division. He fought in the Mexican-American War, returning at its close to Pennsylvania. Still unsettled in his mind, he embarked at the end of the same year, 1848, on the ship 0sceola and settle in California to enter upon mining. He followed for three or four years in Calaveras and Mariposa Counties, and then in the vicinity of Sonora until he found more acceptable occupation as a member at the firm of Miller & Co. Afterwards, he became an agent for Adams & Co.’s Express line and held that office until the company’s dissolution. In 1857, he received a similar appointment from Messrs. Wells, Fargo & Co., which he retained at least until 1882. During these years Mr. Solinsky engaged in several mining operations as well as other business activities. One of the best appointed and well managed hotels in the foothills was under his proprietorship for a number of years. [A History of Tuolumne County, California Published by B.F. Alley, 1882.]
