1875-CC $20 MS64 PCGS.
1875-CC $20 MS64 PCGS. The 1875-CC is the most easily obtainable Carson City double eagle struck in the Type Two series. It is also the most frequently encountered CC twenty in the series after the 1884-CC and 1890-CC. However, as collectors of later date Coronet gold coins know, commonness in low grades does not necessarily translate into availability in high grades. In MS63 condition, 33 coins of this issue have been certified by the two major services. However, this is the only MS64 coin certified, and of course, none are finer. When looking at this coin one cannot help but wonder who set this piece aside, whose collection has it been in, who cared for this coin over the past 129 years. The mint luster is thick and radiant with a cartwheel effect, and the surfaces have a warm coppery tinted, golden-orange coloration. Sharply struck throughout. One can almost count the abrasions there are so few of them. However, rather than do that here are the ones that are distinctive and can be used to trace the pedigree of this important type coin: a scuff is seen midway between the 5 in the date and star 13, a shallow scratch is barely perceptible but runs parallel to Liberty's forehead, and there is a mark to the right of the E in WE on the reverse. An obvious opportunity for Registry Set collectors, but an equally important offering for a collector assembling the ultimate Type Two date set. Important notice: Heritage usually auctions material at the rate of 200-250 lots per hour. On some occasions eBay Live bid software or the Internet may not be able to keep up with the pace of the auction. We recommend placing a realistic absentee bid now as insurance to avoid disappointment. Occasionally the auctioneer may eliminate or reject an eBay Live bid, and the auctioneer may also reopen a lot after the close of the eBay live bidding (usually because we missed an audience bid), and may reject your bid even if it shows you as the winning bidder. By bidding via eBay Live, you agree that Heritage may award the lot to another bidder at its sole discretion under the circumstances described above or any other reasonable circumstances. Also please note that all Heritage lots purchased through eBay Live carry a 20% Buyer's Premium. Please make sure you read the Terms and Conditions before you bid.
