1875-CC 10C Mintmark Above Bow MS65 NGC. The reverse of Fortin-112a, but the obverse die differs. Fortin writes, "I have seen a number of Wide CC reverse examples with a defective die in the region of the left ribbon end. The reverse die anomaly eliminates the striking of the left ribbon end and nearby portions of the wreath. I have not developed any theories as to the cause of this anomaly, but would welcome comments." To this we can only add that the field is also mysteriously elevated near the final C of the mintmark and the E in DIME.
This is a lustrous and nearly brilliant Gem with clean fields and impeccable eye appeal. The strike is intricate save for a few cereal grains on the upper left portion of the wreath. Population: 18 in 65, 10 finer (12/07).

Coin Engraver: Christian Gobrecht

Shipping: Coins & Currency (view shipping information)
