1875-CC $10 AU53 NGC. The 1875-CC is a rare Carson City ten with a mintage of only 7,715 pieces. Only 65-75 coins are believed known in all grades. The finest known is an NGC MS63, and this AU53 piece is tied with several others at the lower end of the Condition Census. Every researcher who has written about the 1875-CC has agreed on one feature: its poor strike. Apparently it only a matter of degree with all coins showing some variant of softness. Doug Winter went so far as to say: "The 1875-CC is the most poorly struck eagle from the Carson City mint. I have seen examples on which the obverse appeared to be twenty to twenty-five numerical points lower than the reverse (i.e., the obverse had the sharpness of Very Fine-20 to Very Fine-25 while the reverse had the sharpness of Extremely Fine-40 to Extremely Fine-45)." However, this coin does not show that particular feature like most 1875-CC tens. The obverse and reverse are well balanced in respect to each other. There is weakness present on the devices, but significant portions of mint luster remain around the devices. The fields show a few small marks, as one would expect, with an overall pleasing appearance for this notoriously difficult Carson City issue.

Shipping: Coin/Currency (view shipping information)
