1875 $20 MS64 PCGS. Housed in an older green-label PCGS holder, this impressive near-Gem ranks among the finest existing 1875 double eagles. The combined NGC and PCGS population is just six coins, with one finer example certified by NGC. The Type Two double eagles rank among the rarest Liberty twenties in high grade. A check of our auction archives shows that we have handled MS64 grade examples of the 1875-CC and 1875-S double eagles in past sales, but this is the first similarly graded example of the Philadelphia issue that has appeared in any of our auctions during the past 15 years.
Both sides have frosty orange-gold luster with full mint brilliance. All of the design elements are boldly rendered and the surfaces have only the slightest ticks on each side. Population: 3 in 64, 0 finer (6/07).

Coin Engraver: James B.
