1875 $20 MS63 PCGS. By Type Two double eagle standards, the 1875 is not particularly difficult. Still, each such issue is a challenge in its own right, and the 1875 is hardly an exception in Mint State, particularly above MS60. Most of the survivors from the mintage, which consisted of just under 300,000 pieces, fall short of the MS63 level, where the issue becomes conditionally scarce. This Select representative offers silky butter-yellow surfaces and pleasing detail overall, though a trace of softness affects the portrait. Despite light, scattered abrasions, the obverse is pleasing for the grade, though a significant mark is present below the right side of IN GOD WE TRUST. A strongly lustrous example that displays well. PCGS has certified only three coins finer (7/07).

Coin Engraver: James B.
