1874 T$1 MS64 PCGS. While the total mintage of the 1874 is not on the large side for the Trade Dollar series, it is impressive for a coin of this type from the Philadelphia Mint. In fact, the delivery of 987,100 Trade Dollars in 1874 is the second highest for this coinage facility after that produced in 1877. As one might expect for an early date Trade Dollar, the 1874 saw very little domestic circulation. Scarce in circulated grades, the '74-P is undeniably rare in Mint State. Richly toned in dominant copper-gray shades, this coin reveals warm champagne tinted undertones with some electric-blue color toward the rims. With the exception of the familiar "problem" areas, the surfaces are boldly struck. There are few evident abrasions, none of which are singularly distracting or out of context with the near-Gem grade level. A business strike issue that was missing from our April 2002 sale of the Morris Silverman Collection. Population: 21 in 64, with just five finer (7/02).From the Andy Geosits Collection of Trade Dollars. Important notice: We expect to be auctioning lots at the rate of 200-250 per hour.
