1874-CC T$1 MS63 PCGS. Medium CC. Trade Dollar production at the Carson City Mint ratcheted up to 1.
1874-CC T$1 MS63 PCGS. Medium CC. Trade Dollar production at the Carson City Mint ratcheted up to 1.3 million coins in this, the second year of issue for the type. Since this issue is the fourth most common Trade Dollar with chopmarks (and the most common CC-mint Trade Dollar with chopmarks), it stands to reason that the majority of the mintage was exported to the Orient. While this set of circumstances makes the '74-CC a popular issue among numismatists who specialize in chopmarks, it does little to endear it to high grade date collectors. In fact, the '74-CC is one of the rarest Trade Dollar in Mint State, and a significant amount of searching will be required if one is looking for an attractive representative at that level of preservation. One of perhaps 30-50 1874-CC Trade Dollars extant in MS63 (per Bowers, 1993), this brilliant-white example displays frosty luster that thins to modest brightness in the fields. The strike, while not 100% complete, is well above average for the type, and the surfaces are also noteworthy for their relative lack of distracting abrasions. Spindly peripheral die cracks on the reverse (all of which are as struck) are noted. An important bidding opportunity for the specialist. From the Andy Geosits Collection of Trade Dollars.
