1874-CC T$1 MS62 PCGS. Tall CC. Our nation''s Western
1874-CC<T$1> MS62 PCGS. Tall CC. Our nation's Western branch mints, in Carson City and San Francisco, were at the mercy of the Mother Mint in Philadelphia for coinage dies, and had to make the most of the dies they had. In 1874 the Carson City Mint produced a then-record number of Trade dollars, 1,373,200 to be exact, most of which went to China and ended up with chopmarks. The present example, lacking chopmarks of course, shows light die cracks on each side that traverse much of the peripheries, evincing die fatigue and overuse. Extensive die lapping, more prominently on the obverse, has removed a considerable swath of the vegetation behind Liberty's right (facing) arm. It is nonetheless quite attractive, with much brilliance under a light golden patina. The strike is boldly executed. Population: 32 in 62, 49 finer (5/06).
From The Guadalupe Collection, Part Two.
