1874-CC 50C Arrows MS64 NGC. This lovely Mint State pi
1874-CC 50C Arrows MS64 NGC. This lovely Mint State piece has reflective fields beneath exquisite gray-gold, pale blue, and iridescent toning. Both sides are sharply detailed with complete stars, head, and flowing gown details on the obverse and a finely feathered eagle on the reverse. Hints of lighter silver color are evident on the highest design points.
Unlike the dimes, the only other silver denomination of this issue, the 1874-CC half dollar is somewhat available across the grading spectrum, although Choice and Gem Mint State pieces are rarities, as indicated by the NGC census data. This piece represents the early die state and is known to specialists as WB-101. Later die state coins (WB-102) have reverse die damage at TE of STATES.
The Carson City Mint was still in its formative years when this piece was struck in the fifth year of operations. Production of all denominations was limited, based on the amount of gold and silver available at any given time. Just 59,000 half dollars were coined during the year, while most of the Mint's efforts were geared toward trade dollars and double eagles. The Carson City Mint produced 1,596,067 coins during the year, and 93% of the total output consisted of those two denominations. Half dollars included another 4% and the balance were dimes, half eagles, and eagles. This is an important opportunity for specialists. Census: 4 in 64, 1 finer (12/06).

Shipping: Coins & Currency (view shipping information)
