Half Dollars 1874 Arrows. NGC graded Mint State 65. <b>Beautiful prooflike radiance from the surface on both sides, with fields supremely bright and flashy. The devices, similar to those on a Proof, come satiny. In doing so, they give the coin something of a two-tone effect, almost cameo contrast. Even were this a commoner date such as 1875 or 1876 or 1877 it would draw a lot of attention. But especially is its condition favorable because it has two small arrows at the side of the date. A fresh, original gem! We might mention that the inflation of the Civil War still had not worked its way out of the economy by the time this half dollar was struck. In fact, America experienced a sharp business setback in 1873-7, with many who lived both saying it was far more disruptive than the famous contraction of 1929-33. Congress found it had once again to adjust the silver content of our coinage in order to retain the desired balance between gold and silver, thus keeping both metals at par (100%) required periodic adjustment under a bi-metallic system as prevailed in 1874. As one can see, mintage of halves increased dramatically after this coin was struck, thereby effecting the return of small change to circulation during the Reconstruction period.</b> <p align="center">Superior Galleries was founded in 1929 and has been a leader in
