1874 5C MS66 NGC. The 1874 (3.5 million pieces produced) is the sixth rarest Shield Nickel in Mint State (per Peters and Mohon, 1995). This date is particularly elusive in grades above the near-Gem level, and it compares favorably in high grade (MS65-67) rarity with the lower mintage 1880. A Condition Census Gem, this premium quality representative is delicately patinated in champagne hues that appear to drift toward the denticles. All of the reverse star centrils are crisp, and, indeed, the overall sharp strike is impressive for the type. Bright, fully lustrous, and satiny, the surfaces are devoid of even a single bothersome distraction. Population: 4 in 66, 0 finer (11/02). Important notice: We expect to be auctioning lots at the rate of 200-250 per hour. Sometimes eBay Premier live bid software cannot keep up with that pace, so we strongly recommend that you place a realistic proxy bid now as insurance to avoid disappointment. Also please note that all Heritage/CAA lots purchased through eBay Premier carry a 20% Buyer's Premium. Please make sure you read the Terms and Conditions.
