<B>1874 $3 MS63 Prooflike NGC.</B></I> Prooflike three dollar gold coins are extremely rare and seldom seen, constituting as they do a tiny minority of the certified population. While some issues from the 1870s forward show Prooflike-certified populations at NGC of up to 1% or 2%, some early issues in the series show Prooflike pieces forming only a small fraction of a percent of the Mint State pieces certified. In the case of the 1874, somewhat less than 1% of the pieces at NGC have earned the Prooflike designation. This piece boasts lovely yellow-gold surfaces with attractive black-on-gold contrast. A few faint field abrasions appear consistent with the Select grade.
