An authentic 1874 U.S. fractional currency note from the Fifth Issue, denominated at twenty-five cents. This historical piece features a finely detailed engraved portrait of Robert J. Walker, former Secretary of the Treasury, set within an ornate oval frame at the left. The right side of the note is dominated by bold typography displaying the denomination "25 CENTS," flanked by decorative floral motifs and underscored by a vibrant red Treasury seal with intricate guilloche patterns. The phrase "United States Fractional Currency" is prominently printed at the bottom, emphasizing its official nature during the post-Civil War coin shortage. The reverse is adorned with complex green geometric filigree and the large "25 CENTS" denomination at center, with inscriptions detailing its legal exchange value. Issued by Columbian Bank Note Co. Washington, D.C.
