1873 Winchester carbine, .44-40 caliber, all features as standard on carbine. Showing large "40" engraved on lifter and serial #135283A on tang. Received in the warehouse Oct 13, 1883, shipped Jan 8, 1884, with 19 other 73's to order10149. The bottom of the frame shows J. R. 12769 neatly stamped in very small die stamps which have been identified as the markings of James Rosier of Melbourne, Australia who imported a number of these Winchester carbines and this particular gunwas sold to the Pentridge Jail in Melbourne. Carbine remains in good to very good condition showing 10-20% original blue mixing in with a light brown patina, some scattered erosion and pinprick pitting. Generally good metal surfaceswith good sharp metal address. Stocks are good to very good and have been coated with a light coating of clear varnish and some minor cleaning. The loading gate shows considerable original blue. The action is good, the bore is fair to good andmay clean. An interesting and historic '73 carbine. Est: $4,000 - $8,000
