1873<T$1> Trade Dollar, Judd-1293, Pollock-1435, R.4, PR64 NGC. Liberty is seen on this design in a similar pose to the regular issue Trade dollar, seated and facing left, but her left hand rests on a globe and her right hand is holding a Liberty Pole with Phrygian Cap on top. There are bales of cotton and a sheaf of wheat nearby. The reverse has a smallish, upright eagle grasping a shield in its right (facing) claws. Struck in silver with a reeded edge. This is one of the designs that was sold by the mint in six-piece sets for $30. The sets were made in silver with both plain and reeded edges, copper, and aluminum. The surfaces are lightly hairlined with an overlay of smoky gray-rose toning that deepens to emerald-green around the margin on the reverse. The central details on the reverse are weakly struck, as usual, from die opposition. One of the finest examples known of this popular pattern Trade dollar.
