1873<T$1> Trade Dollar, Judd-1281, Pollock-1423, R.4, PR62 PCGS. The obverse, designed by J. A. Bailly, features a coiled hair bust of Liberty facing left. The reverse mimics the 'Amazonian' pattern silver dollar save for a reduction in the size of the eagle and the addition of the motto E PLURIBUS UNUM above and the weight and fineness below. Struck in silver with a reeded edge. Six-piece sets were sold by the Mint for $30, and consisted of silver, copper, and aluminum coins with both plain and reeded edges. This is a deeply mirrored example whose equally deep blue toning conceals the hairlines that account for the grade.
