<B>1873-S T$1 MS63 PCGS.</B></I> Virtually the entire 703,000-piece mintage of 1873-S Trade dollars was exported to China. David Bowers (1993) adds: "... as numismatists in the United States (1) were not interested in collecting by mintmark varieties, and (2) were not interested in Trade dollars, very few were saved domestically." The Select example in this lot exhibits pleasing luster and hints of tan-gold color at the margins. Well struck, save for weakness on Liberty's head and on the eagle's left (right facing) leg and claw. A few inoffensive handling marks limit the grade. From this cataloger's experience, the 1873-S is a tough date in any grade.
