<B>1873-S $20 Open 3 AU58 PCGS.</B></I> Because of the distance between the two coasts, the new Open 3 double eagle dies from Philadelphia took their time reaching the San Francisco Mint. By the time of arrival, most 1873-S twenties needed for the year had already been coined. Some Open 3 pieces were struck, but the issue is undeniably scarce.
