1873-S $10 AU58 NGC. A sharply struck representative that has abundant bright luster, both at the margins and within protected areas of the devices. While moderately abraded, there are no heavy bagmarks, and the clean cheek adds to the eye appeal. Each side has an unimportant rim ding at 5 o'clock. Unlike the 1873-S Double Eagle, the Eagle of this date and mintmark is exceptionally rare. Only 12,000 pieces were minted, the vast majority of which were eventually melted. NGC has certified only 50 pieces in all grades, many of which could well be resubmissions. The typical survivor is in XF condition, and only one coin, a PCGS MS61, has been graded as Uncirculated. The present Borderline Uncirculated example is one of the finest known, as the combined NGC and PCGS population is three coins with one higher. Important notice: We expect to be auctioning lots at the rate of 200-250 per hour. Sometimes eBay Premier live bid software cannot keep up with that pace, so we strongly recommend that you place a realistic proxy bid now as insurance to avoid disappointment. Also please note that all Heritage/CAA lots purchased through eBay Premier carry a 20% Buyer's Premium. Please make sure you read the Terms and Conditions.
