Small Cents 1873 Closed 3. PCGS graded Mint State 64. Red and Brown. <b>Sleek and glossy, this has beautiful light wood-grain patina that is mostly brown to steel brown but with splashes of mint color in amongst the letters and more expansive on the reverse. This initial (Closed 3) date punch was found to resemble 1878. Early in the year, after Chief Coiner, A. L. Snowden made formal complaints, a new date punch with a more open 3 was completed. This change was made on all denominations, not only the Indian cent, with the exception of the silver three-cent piece, half dime, and silver dollar, which were discontinued earlier in the year by the Act of 1873.</b> <p align="center">Superior Galleries was founded in 1929 and has been a leader in
