<B>1873 G$1 Closed 3 MS62 Prooflike NGC.</B></I> An impressive piece with full prooflike surfaces, this 1873 gold dollar was struck early in the year with the Closed 3 date logotype. The upper and lower knobs of the 3 are joined, and the digit appears almost exactly like an 8. The complaint about these coins was the date could not be easily determined, necessitating the switch from the Closed 3 logotype to an Open 3 logotype. A sharply struck example with brilliant yellow-gold luster and excellent eye appeal. NGC has certified just two prooflike examples, both MS62, and possibly representing this single coin that may have been submitted twice. In non-prooflike, the Census is 15 in 62, 17 finer (12/07).<BR><BR><B>Coin Engraver:</B> James B.
