1873-CC<T$1> MS62 PCGS. A very tough coin to find in uncirculated grades as most of the mintage went straight to the Orient where they were intended to go. The CC mintmark is small and looks to be a match to the coin pictured in the Bowers-Borckardt Encyclopedia on silver dollars, including the tiny die line through the top of the D in DOLLAR. The strike is generally sharp on the stars, but is not quite full on Liberty on the uppermost points or on the eagle's thigh. Faint hairlines in the fields and a scattered nick or two account for the grade, but this one is much better than normally encountered. Medium silver-gray in color, and attractive for the grade. The 1873-CC is one of the most underappreciated dates in the series, and this coin should attract considerable attention. Census: 7 in 62, 13 finer (12/05).
From The Andy Geosits Collection of Trade Dollars.
