1873-CC 50C No Arrows MS61 NGC
1873-CC 50C No Arrows MS61 NGC. The 1873-CC No Arrows half dollar is a scarce variety, somewhat scarcer than its With Arrows counterpart thanks in large part to the fact that roughly half as many were minted. It is a tough call as to whether this coin would rise to the level of a key date in the series, yet this in itself is notable, in that the 1873-CC No Arrows dime and quarter are each legendary rarities with a mere half dozen pieces known combined.
Similar to the other pieces from the early days of this storied Mint, most 1873-CC halves went directly into circulation and stayed there, so while these coins are occasionally available in circulated grades, as evidenced by the listings in our Auction Archives, uncirculated pieces are quite scarce. The last Mint State 1873-CC No Arrows half dollar Heritage offered at auction was an MS63 piece that sold in our February 2005 Long Beach Signature Auction; collectors since then have likely had to settle for coins that are circulated, have problems, or both.
This coin is a softly lustrous, predominantly olive-gold piece. The surfaces are by no means pristine, but are remarkably free of the distractions one might ordinarily expect from a coin with this modest Mint State grade. Perhaps the only distracting aspect of this coin's appearance is a planchet flaw (as struck) visible on Liberty's right leg near the shield. The overall appearance is certainly quite pleasing, and discriminating collectors of high-end Seated Liberty coinage should carefully consider this piece. It may be some time before a similar opportunity arises again.

Coin Engraver: Christian Gobrecht

Shipping: Coins & Currency (view shipping information\)
