1873-CC 50C Arrows MS64 PCGS. In 1873, the Mint increased the weight of all subsidiary coinage to conform to the metric system. This brought the weight of the half dollar up to 12.50 grams, and to designate the weight change arrows were added to each side of the date, as had been done twenty years earlier when a weight reduction was instituted. The 1873-CC Arrows is the scarcest of only six Seated half dollars struck in the Carson City mint from 1873 on, followed by the 1878-CC and the 1874-CC Arrows. All of these are rare and valuable issues, especially in higher grades. This is a sharply defined example that has a fine-grain surface brought about because of metal flow from the advanced state of the dies. Each side has an even, moderate layer of gray patina with strong underlying mint frost. Population: 5 in 64, 2 finer (1/05). Lot:7077
