There are a few light marks in the fields, which are consistent with the grade, but the surfaces are far above average for the date and grade. Some light weakness of strike on the curls around the face of Liberty is typical for the issue while the reverse has much sharper detail than usual. This is a coin that combines rarity, beauty, and pedigree in one package and it ranks as one of the most important Carson City Half Eagles of any date. The 1873-CC Half Eagle is rare in any grade. There are an estimated half dozen known in About Uncirculated and just two in Uncirculated.
