1873-CC<25C> Arrows--Plugged--ANACS. AU55 Details. The 1873-CC, with a mintage of 12,462 pieces, is one of the most difficult issues to obtain in the entire Seated Liberty quarter series. That few coins are still extant is apparent from a review of auction appearances, of which there have been less than 40 over the last ten years or so. Seated Liberty specialist Larry Briggs (1991) writes that: "Most pieces are damaged or porous. Nice XF or better examples are prohibitively rare." The AU55 Details specimen in this lot has been inexpertly plugged near the rim at 12 o'clock on the obverse. The upper part of Liberty's head has been reengraved, as has been the R in QUAR on the reverse. The surfaces have a bright silver-gray appearance, with splotches of russet patina around some of the stars. Wispy, but unobtrusive, hairlines are noted, as are some minute contact marks. No surface porosity is apparent.
