1873-CC 10C Arrows AU58 NGC. A classic rarity in a 1873-CC[10C] Arrows AU58 NGC.
1873-CC<10C> Arrows AU58 NGC. A classic rarity in any grade, and one of the most sought-after Seated dimes. While the number graded makes this appear to be slightly more available than the other surrounding dates (1871-CC, 1872-CC and 1874-CC) this particular date is often found in very low grades. In fact, the NGC census notes that of the 29 examples of this date graded, 20 coins grade Fine or below. Curiously, at the top of their Census, there are two mint state coins, both MS65. It appears that the next available grade would be this particular coin, a solid AU58. On this specimen we note quite a bit of remaining luster in the fields with attractive pinkish-gold toning over Liberty and satiny yellow-gold hues cover the reverse. Close examination will find a couple of trivial hairlines from brief circulation, but nothing worthy of note or distracting is found. Fully struck for this issue, with no signs of weakness on the wreath or on Liberty. While this rarity is not toned with the desirable rainbow colors, it is not a matter of finding another similar coin in this grade with a different color combination, 1873-CC dimes with arrows simply are not available in this lofty grade. In fact, this may be the only chance for years to purchase a coin of this caliber, and what it will bring is simply a matter of where the underbidder will finally give up. One bidder will prevail, and will add a memorable prize to an advanced Seated Liberty dime collection. We note that NGC has graded 2 coins as XF45, with no others reported in any AU grade aside from the present coin.
