AU Details, Net EF40. Although indeed cleaned and corroded as the ANACS insert indicates, the corrosion is very mild and the hairlines and unnatural white appearance of the coin would not appear so bad if the coin were allowed to naturally retone over a period of years. While the final-year 1873-CC with 2,300 pieces originally struck does not own the distinction of having the lowest mintage of the four Carson City issues of this design (the 1871-CC had a smaller mintage), it is the rarest of the four as it is estimated that less than 1,000 pieces were actually released into circulation, the rest melted after the Mint Act of 1873 abolished the Silver Dollar in favor of the Trade Dollar. Most often found in low grades or with problems, the present piece offers the collector plenty of remaining design detail for the money.
From the John H. On occasion eBay live bid software cannot keep up with the pace of the auctions where 4-5 lots per minute can hammer down, so we recommend that you place a realistic absentee bid now as insurance to avoid disappointment.
