Proof 66 <b>A slight increase in the weight of America's silver coins provided for by the Coinage Act of 1873 meant that Arrows were once more added to the date on issues struck after the act went into force. 1873 and 1874 are the two years in which this happens. Proofs of either date are highly prized since the total made was under 2,000. For 1873 specifically, the mint struck 540 Proofs with Arrows. All have an Open 3 in the date. Superb detail and beautiful toning describe this gem Proof 66 example. It has every indication it was part of an original Proof set until recent times -- stunning blue and lavender-gray toning, deep mirror field, watery reflection when light strikes the surface.
