<B>1873 2C Open 3 PR65 Red NGC.</B></I> The 1873 is a proof-only issue. An estimated 1,100 pieces were struck. Both Closed 3 and Open 3 logotypes were used, and the Open 3 is considered slightly more rare. The Open 3 pieces have been called restrikes, but many other proof denominations were struck using both logotypes, and it is possible the Open 3 was simply distributed later in the year with the Arrows Seated denominations. This well struck brick-red Gem is unabraded and lacks mentionable carbon.
