1873 2C Closed 3 PR66 Red and Brown PCGS. This year is the last in which the U.S. Mint produced Two Cent Pieces. No business strikes were delivered, however, as the mintage was confined to proofs. Approximately 600 originals emerged from the Mint in 1873, and they are distinguished from the restrikes by the closed 3 in the date. This extraordinarily high grade example is possessed of bright, mottled, orange-red undertones beneath warm olive-brown toning. Both the obverse and the reverse are free of grade-limiting blemishes, and there is no problem with the sharp striking detail. Population: 13 in 66 Red and Brown, 0 finer (7/02).
