1873 25C Arrows PR67 NGC. Ex: Eliasberg. Briggs 5-D. Using a new obverse die and the leftover reverse die of the 1872 Briggs 3-C issue, the Philadelphia Mint delivered 540 proof Quarters of the new Arrows type in 1873. Not to imply that proofs of this brief two-year type are common, but they do enjoy demand that is not commensurate with their actual rate of availability. This is due, of course, to unrelenting demand from type collectors. The type collector who desires the ultimate in technical quality and aesthetic appeal in a proof Motto, Arrows Quarter would be wise to enter a strong bid for this gorgeous specimen. A dusting of silver-gray patina yields to iridescent orange-red, gold, and blue peripheral shadings. Deep mirrors are evident as the coin rotates into the light. As befits a proof striking of the issue, every feature is fully detailed, and there is not a single blemish that would cause one to question the designated grade. To an NGC population of two coins in PR67 and one finer, PCGS has only a single PR67 example to add (1/03).Ex: Louis E. On occasion eBay live bid software cannot keep up with the pace of the auctions where 4-5 lots per minute can hammer down, so we recommend that you place a realistic absentee bid now as insurance to avoid disappointment.
