Copy of original land grant from October 7th, 1846. Houston County 640 acres to John A. Roberts. Signed lower right by Jacob Kuechler, acting Texas Land Commissioner. Dated October 5th, 1872. Kuechler was the surviving guide for the 61 "Conscientious Objectors" fleeing in what would become "The Nueces Massacre".Confederate James Duff and his Partisan Rangers overtook them at the Nueces River, thirty-four were killed, some taken prisoner only to be killed.
