<B>1872-S 50C MS63 PCGS.</B></I> Although 580,000 half dollars were coined at San Francisco in 1872, relatively few have managed to survive, as they saw heavy use in the channels of commerce. PCGS and NGC have seen fewer than 30 Mint State examples. The Select specimen in this lot displays bright luster, and just a few wisps of light tan color at the peripheries. Crisp definition is seen on all of the design elements, which further enhances the appeal of the coin. A few minute marks just barely preclude near-Gem status.
