<B>1872-S $2 1/2 MS64 PCGS.</B></I> Both sides display a hard, metallic sheen and are extremely well struck save for localized softness on the eagle's left (facing) leg feathers, typical of the issue. Just a few glancing blemishes are noticed on Liberty's cheek and brow under magnification. This issue's mintage of 18,000 pieces is a bit lower than other S-mint quarter eagle issues from the period and Mint State survivors in any grade are quite scarce. This Choice example is undoubtedly among the finest 1872-S quarter eagles extant.
