1872 G$1 PR65 PCGS. Even business strikes of this date, with a mintage of 3,500 pieces, are seldom seen, although when encountered they are quite lovely, and a few extremely high grade pieces are seen infrequently in the marketplace, most of them at least partially prooflike. The Harry W. Bass, Jr., Collection contained three examples. The proof mintage was 30 coins, although more proof examples appear to have survived than for other dates with comparable mintages. In Gem condition PCGS has certified only five pieces, with none finer, and none at NGC (11/06). The present example features deep, mellow orange-gold surfaces with considerable contrast, and a couple of tiny, undistracting dark toning spots visible under a lens, one on the 7 in the date, a second on the lower hair curls. Nonetheless attractive, and quite rare.

Shipping: Coin/Currency (view shipping information)
