1872 Elizabeth Cady Stanton Autograph Quotation Signed Leading Activist Figure of the Early Women’s Movement
ELIZABETH CADY STANTON. American Social Activist and Leading Figure of the Early Women’s Movement.
August 12, 1872-Dated, Autograph Quotation Signed, “Elizabeth Cady Stanton” measuring 7” x 8.75”, 1 page, Tenafly, N.J., Choice Extremely Fine. Here Stanton pens in very fine point violet ink, a Stanza from Alfred Lord Tennyson’s poem, “The Princess; A Medley”. This Autograph Quotation reads, in full:

“(Tennyson’s Princess) --- Everywhere Two heads in council, two beside the hearth, Two in the tangled business of the world, Two in the liberal offices of life, Two plummets dropt for one to sound the abyss Of science, and the secrets of the mind: --- (Signed) Elizabeth Cady Stanton”.

This piece is very easy to read and is beautifully penned. Her full signature, “Elizabeth Cady Stanton” is huge, measuring a massive 4.75” long and being written about two thirds across the page! Quite rare.
