1872-CC S$1 VG10 PCGS. In 1873 the intrinsic silver content in a dollar dropped below the face value for numerous reasons, including the adoption of a gold standard by the Latin Monetary Union--France, Italy, Belgium, and Switzerland--and the Panic of 1873 in the financial markets, creating a depression that lasted until 1877. Bowers theorizes that the 1872-CC silver dollars, produced to the extent of only 3,150 pieces, circulated after that drop in their relative value. The present piece shows full rims on both sides and no major surface impairments. Both sides are an appealing dove-gray color.

Shipping: Coins & Currency (view shipping information)
