1872-CC S$1 VF25 PCGS. Numismatists have long speculated on what became of the recorded mintage of 3,150 silver dollars of this issue. As of (4/07), NGC and PCGS combined have certified only 224 pieces in all grades, less whatever factor one chooses for the inevitable resubmissions and crossovers. Breen speculates that most of the issue was melted at the Carson City Mint after April 1873. Bowers, however, believes that they circulated after 1873, when their melt value dropped below their face value. This attractive midgrade piece shows only the moderate wear expected for the grade on medium-silver surfaces, with few visible impairments.

Shipping: Coins & Currency (view shipping information)
