XF Details.</B></I> Though it lacks the first-year cachet and positive press of the 1870-CC eagle, Garrett and Guth rate the 1872-CC as the more elusive issue. The mintage of 4,600 pieces saw heavy use on the frontier, and most survivors are low-grade. Though the lightly hairlined apricot-gold surfaces are oddly luminous, the overall appearance of this eagle is better than the details grade might suggest.
