1872 $5 Barber's Amazonian Head Half Eagle, Judd-1241, Pollock-1383, Low R.7, PR64 Gilt NGC. William Barber's "Amazonian Gold" design, similar to the gold dollar pattern except the denomination is expressed as FIVE DOL. Struck in copper with a reeded edge. Star 1 is about level with the sharply pointed bust tip, and the middle hair curl extends down to touch a border dentil. The lowest curl is thin and turns sharply downward where it quickly comes to a point. Star 13 nearly touches the back curl. On the reverse, the stars flanking the denomination are level with the base of the legend. The top right corner of the shield and the ribbon end to the right of the shield are both fragmented, due to die polishing. This example is sharply struck with reflective yellow-gold surfaces. Faint hairlines are evident on both sides, and the reverse has faint traces of surface roughness. Pale orange toning is present only on the reverse of this example.
From The Jones Beach Collection.

Shipping: Coin/Currency (view shipping information)
