1872 $3 PR64 PCGS. The proof 1872 three dollar gold piece has an original mintage of only 30 pieces. It is unlikely, however, that even half of these coins are extant today, a few of which are unfortunately impaired. In addition to being wholly original, this near-Gem is free of unduly bothersome post-production distractions. Both sides display a tantalizing cameo finish with deep, rich orange-gold patina. There is a single, well concealed toning spot on Liberty's headdress, and a series of minute planchet flaws in the reverse field around the 3 in the denomination should help establish the pedigree of this piece. An important coin with both rarity and aesthetic desirability on its side. PCGS has certified three pieces as PR64, one piece as PR64 Cameo, and one specimen as PR65 (10/06).
Ex: Santa Clara Signature (Heritage, 11/00), lot 7097.
From The Jones Beach Collection.

Shipping: Coin/Currency (view shipping information)
