<B>1872 $3 PR62 ANACS.</B></I> The proof 1872 is a great rarity. Only 30 proofs were struck, in addition to just 2,000 business strikes. How many could have survived today? We estimate that probably no more than half the original proof production is still extant. The numbers certified confirm this when resubmissions are factored out. This well struck representative has noticeable frost on the portrait and the wreath, although the piece is undesignated as Cameo by ANACS. A few faint field hairlines limit the grade. An identifying shallow planchet lamination is located to the right of the 2 in the date.
