1872 25C Quarter Dollar, Judd-1196, Pollock-1336, Low R.7, PR66 Brown PCGS. William Barber's Amazonian design. Liberty is armed with a long sword and a Federal shield, and her hand touches a defiant eagle. The reverse again depicts an eagle and shield, with the eagle larger and the shield smaller than their obverse counterparts. The eagle clutches the arrows of war, but no olive branch or other peace symbol is present. Struck in copper with a reeded edge. This ocean-blue and rose-red piece is well struck save for selected portions of the obverse eagle. The preservation is outstanding aside from minute obverse flecks and a few wispy grazes on the date. As of (10/06), PCGS has certified four examples of Judd-1196, which respectively grade PR64 Brown, PR65 Red and Brown, PR65 Red, and PR66 Brown (the present piece).
From The Jones Beach Collection. Ex: Abe Kosoff (11/1955); Bergin Collection (Stacks, 6/1984); Teletrade (3/3/1993); Superior (4/2000 FPL).

Shipping: Coin/Currency (view shipping information)
