1872 1C PR65 Red PCGS. Proof 1872 Cents are much more plentiful in today's hobby than Mint State examples of the same date. This is not to say that the present PR65 Red specimen is common. Far from it. NGC and PCGS combined have seen only 20 1872 Cents at this grade level, and there are just nine coins finer (10/02). The present example was struck from the obverse die that displays a die scratch (as produced) on the headband after the Y in LIBERTY. The fully brought up features reveal some faint streaking (also as struck) on the obverse. We stress, however, that this feature is modest for an issue that is known for poorly alloyed planchets. There is not a single mentionable distraction. From the Joseph P. Gorrell Collection. Important notice: We expect to be auctioning lots at the rate of 200-250 per hour.
