1872 1C MS65 Red and Brown PCGS. Indian Head cent specialist Richard Snow (2006) writes that the 1872 cent: "Aside from the 1877 ... is the toughest date to find today. ... Most coins of this date are streaky due to uneven alloy mixes. Many examples were poorly struck or found with missing detail due to some liquid, such as machine oil or water, getting on the planchet or dies." The Red and Brown Gem presented in this lot deviates from the above profile. Even copper-tan patination occupies lustrous surfaces on each side. With the exception of slight weakness in the upper right part of the shield, the design elements are sharply struck, including strong definition on all four diamonds. No significant abrasions or unsightly spots are apparent. Population: 66 in 65 Red and Brown, 5 finer (2/07).

Shipping: Coins & Currency (view shipping information)
